We took a couple of days off to respect and understand the new orders from our Provincial Health Officer. Parkour is a sport practiced individually, and although we offer instruction it does not need to be practiced in groups. We have reopened with a few changes to our instructed lessons. “Open Practice” times for individual practice remain the same.
Here is a short list of some of the bigger points that make parkour at Origins a safe activity in regards to covid-19 transmission:
- Strict Caps on Attendance
- Masks Mandatory
- Great Ventilation in Vancouver & Port Moody
- 2M Distancing Markers
- Frequent Sanitizing & Cleaning
- An Individual Practice
- A Practice with a low Anaerobic/Aerobic demand
An Individual Sport
Is what parkour has always been. In the past we have had members interact with each other in our lessons, but since reopening in June we have had to change how we operate. We will be changing once again to ensure we are following the new health orders:
These activities can be replaced with individual exercise or practice that allows everyone to maintains a safe physical distance.
Public Health Orders, Nov 9th.
Coming to Origins to practice parkour is already an individual exercise. Our instructor-lead lessons will suspend group warm-ups in order to keep everyone distant. Instead, when you come in for a lesson you will see warm up activities projected on our wall. You can do your warm up at your own pace and coaches will be present to help guide you. This will also apply to Kids classes.
Low Anaerobic/Aerobic demand
Most of parkour is practiced in very short bursts with adequate rest in between. Due to the dangers of ones breath spreading through the air, we ask that you ensure you are not putting extra demand on yourself during your practice. Our small attendance caps and big spaces will help if you need to move further away from others to catch your breath.
Book Your Time
In order to make sure we have an appropriate number of people at all times we must be strict about the length of your stay. When you book your time please be aware of the start and end of your session, and leave when appropriate, so that others can occupy the space.
Over the weekend we moved some structures around to create fun obstacles that allow for more space to keep a part. We can’t wait for you to see!
